New Voicemail and Fax Number!

Posted in administrivia, announcements on December 8th, 2008 by Daniel Johnson, Jr. – View Comments

Ah, remember those good ol’ K7 days? No? Remember that 206-666-JIMM phone number I used to have, and how you used to call occasionally and leave messages I’d play on the podcast?  Well, something happened to that number, and I haven’t had a voicemail line for some time.

Until today.

Prompted by the Official Commentator of the Journey Inside My Mind, Ed Ovett from Ed’s Mixed Bag, I got a new voicemail/fax line. I’m branding the phone line as the “voicemail line for Daniel Johnson, Jr. and Jazzmania Productions”, so that I can use it for my other new media projects as well.

So, without further ado, the voicemail/fax number for Daniel Johnson, Jr. and Jazzmania Productions is

+1-206-339-8030

Enter that number in your phone and call it regularly. Especially if you have a comment for the Journey Inside My Mind.

Update: This number has also faded. Please use the Contact page to get in touch.

Help! I’ve been trying to access category and archive pages and keep getting error messages, stating that the pages don’t exist.  Troublesome.  Is this happening to you?

Try this: click on the Categories dropdown and select a category.  Then select a month in the Archives dropdown.

Any of you using WordPress have this happen? Do you have any advice or tips?

Time for a theme update

I’m at the point where I’m ready to move away from the default WordPress theme to something with more pizzazz.  Since this website is about the Journey Inside My Mind, which includes music, musings, and the like, I have to believe that there are some themes available that can help bring this out.  Do you have any suggestions? Feel free to leave them in the comments.

Six years later and the move to hosted WordPress

Posted in administrivia, plans on August 20th, 2008 by Daniel Johnson, Jr. – View Comments

Maybe you noticed on danieljohnsonjr.com that I’m moving to WordPress. If not, here’s a heads-up.

I’ve played around with free hosting since I first set up my GeoCities site back in 2002. I still have “Dan’s Links” set up as my home page on my browser. (Stop laughing. It’s worked for me. ;P)

I’ve got me some web hosting and am slowly working my way in moving my blogs to hosted WordPress. I’m having to learn about nameservers and public_html, Fantastico, and all that fun stuff. But I’m really looking forward to playing with PHP and MySQL, since I’ve done a lot of SQL Server development for work.

If things here appear a bit wonky for awhile, that’s why. Also, if you’d like to offer some free advice during the transition, feel free to leave it in the comments, or contact me through the usual channels.

Retrospective – Year-to-date and prior-year snapshots

Posted in administrivia, zeitgeist on July 5th, 2007 by Daniel Johnson, Jr. – View Comments

From time to time, especially since I’ve been blogging for awhile, I like to look back through the archives of my blogs. It’s been awhile since I’ve done this for Journey Inside My Mind. Can you believe I’ve been doing this for 5-1/2 years? A lot of content since that first post back in January 2002.

Starting off by going back each month of 2007 so far:

Here’s what happened as we go back a year at a time during this blog’s history:

Have you found anything from the archives that you’d like brought back up to the surface? Let me know, and I’ll share it with the rest of the group here.

A Trip Through the Archives

I just twittered:

hey bloggers! when was the last time you browsed through your archives to see what you talked about 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years ago?

and I was immediately reminded that it’s been awhile since I did that myself. So, here goes:

The new media playground is like jazz

Mood: upbeat

I checked my Bloglines and noticed that C.C. Chapman mentioned my name on his latest episode and the Journey Inside My Mind Blog in the shownotes, specifically with an audio comment about how the new media playground is a lot like jazz:

“Do not fear mistakes; there are none.” – Miles Davis.

A lot of jazz music usually involves improvisation within the boundaries of a chord progression. The song starts off, usually with the melody. Then different instruments take their solos, which usually fall within the same chord progression as the melody. Eventually everyone comes back together to wrap up the song.

I’m probably grossly oversimplifying things with that description, especially when you consider trendsetters like Miles Davis, who through constantly reinventing himself, created new boundaries and genres of jazz music (Check out this post from 2003 for more information: Paving the Milestones).

I like to think that’s what it’s like with what we’re doing with new media.
