Five years ago, in late August 2005 I launched this experiment. I had no other name to draw from to call it. At that time my primary blog was entitled Journey Inside My Mind, so I figured this project was simply an extension of that. Mostly as a way to share some good music and serve as a creative outlet.

Thank you for listening, whether this is your first time, or this is your 124th time, or somewhere in between.  It’s always a little introspective – given the title, but knowing that there is one other person who listens also makes this worthwhile.  So I send this on up to the internet, as a sort of time capsule. Enjoy.

Some of the music in this program comes from Music Alley from Mevio. Thank you, Ed Ovett, for reminding me of my playlist over there.  If you listening to this program want to recommend some music for me to check out and play, you can get in touch via e-mail daniel AT journeyinsidemymind DOT com.

MLK and Where the Streets Have No Name. Remembering Super Bowl 2002. Dizzy Lizzy by G. Miles featuring Soul Therapy. Congratulations from Zack, Chris, and Ed.  Black Coffee. The World Is Kind. Now doing Microsoft CRM and Technical Support for ThinkWare. New Media Cincinnati update. AM – Stop. My new StarCraft 2 obsession. TED Talk – Gaming can make a better world. Come Undone.

Podcasting for Five Years

72 - 5 Year Birthday...

Five years ago today in the wee hours of the morning, August 22, 2005, I released the very first episode of the Journey Inside My Mind podcast. I still vividly recall the hours that led up to it: downloading and learning Audacity, recording it and editing it and posting it online.

So much has changed in five years: the website, the webhost, the frequency, the music, the tools.

I don’t even really know how to mark such an occasion with this podcast, which only recently was revived.  Ido plan on recording an episode to commemorate this event. I’ve received a few comments from others. You’re more than welcome to submit something if you’d like. E-mail an mp3 file to daniel [at] journeyinsidemymind [dot] com.

Thank you for the blog comments!

WordPress Session at Podcamp Ohio

In preparation for this weekend’s 4-year anniversary episode of the Journey Inside My Mind podcast, I’ve gone through the comments made on this blog, and have produced this list. It was compiled from the MySQL database that powers my WordPress blog, with the query:

SELECT DISTINCT `comment_author` , `comment_author_url`
FROM wp_comments
ORDER BY `comment_author` ASC

After cleaning up the list in Excel, I’ve got this of everyone who has commented and has left a link. Thank you to everyone who has been involved over the past four years or more:

I think I’m going to try this out for my other blogs as well.  Thanks also to Chris Penn for the idea.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Thirteen years ago Jennie and I embarked on this wonderful adventure that is marriage. In some ways it feels like only yesterday; in others, it feels like quite a while. I love how time is elastic like that.

I haven’t typically been one to give greeting cards, so I hope that she’ll be impressed when she gets the one I’m giving her, even if it came from a card store. It reads:Baby, when I think about us,
I can’t help but love
what we’ve become.
Yes, those early days
of you and me were amazing.
But now, we’ve eased
into this deep, soulful groove…
the kind that fills in
all the missing beats
of a man’s life
with what’s real and true…

You’re the rhythm to my rhyme –
smooth and steady
as a heartbeat.
You complete me, Baby.
And while I’ve loved
every stage of us,
I wouldn’t give anything for this one –
the one where we
know each other by heart.

You’re the woman who grooves me.
Always have. And, Baby…
you always will.

Happy Anniversary

I noticed that Ed from Ed’s Mixed Bag played my request for Ingrid Michaelson‘s “The Way I Am” on his latest show. Thanks, Ed!

Can you help me make my anniversary special?

Here’s the situation – I need your help:

Married father of one 9-year old, seeking help (ideas, etc.) from other married men (and women) about how to make a wedding anniversary on June 17th special in order to make up for having blown it big time in previous years. $50 budget.

When it comes to mine and Jennie’s wedding anniversary, I have not done a great job. This time around, Jennie’s not expecting anything, and I’d like to actually do something special this year.

Leave your ideas in the comments.

Thanks to the Official Safety Officer of Journey Inside My Mind, Rich Palmer, aka host of the Audio Gumshoe podcast…

I have in my possession a brand-new copy of “Sing a Song for Safety”, which contains 12 entertaining songs about safety, written just for kids. Parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, people of all ages – this CD will be a great addition to your collection. Head over to RichPalmer.com to find out how to buy your own copy. Or you can get it from CD Baby.

In the show, I played a montage of 10 song endings of songs I’ve played over the past year. The table below provides links to the JIMM episodes in which the songs were played. All you have to do is send me an email to danimal0416 at gmail dot com with the word “Contest” in the subject line, and include the Artist and Song Title for each clip.
