Red Lobster FTW on Jennie’s Birthday

Posted in birthday, food on October 28th, 2007 by Daniel Johnson, Jr. – Be the first to comment

We went to Red Lobster tonight to celebrate Jennie’s birthday. The player below contains about nine and a half minutes of that time.

I’ve also been having ppl call in to leave a voicemail wishing her a Happy Birthday. I’m going to mash up everyone’s voicemails into a montage for her.

*FTW = for the win; i.e., used to indicate an awesome choice.

I Am a Glutton for Punishment

Posted in food on April 12th, 2006 by Daniel Johnson, Jr. – Be the first to comment

Mood: tired and a bit nauseous
Reading: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, with Keisha
Eating: Buffalo Wild Wings

Last night for dinner we went back to Buffalo Wild Wings, and I ordered my usual dozen Blazin’ wings. We also order a dozen Spicy Garlic, and Jennie usually orders either BBQ or Hot for herself. We also get some celery and either blue cheese or ranch dressing. Keisha gets whatever she wants.

Jennie and I each got a 23-ounce Miller Lite and a glass of ice water. I think the beer is designed to lubricate the digestive system – at least I’d like to think that.

But the Blazin’ wings are the restaurants hottest flavor. When I first ordered them a few weeks ago, I thought it was a good challenge for me. And it turned out that they weren’t that bad.

These past two times, however, were not as good. Maybe someone else was doing the sauces or something, but these babies were very hot. It got to the point where tears were coming out of my eyes. Last night, though, it was because the sauce was hurting my lips.

I kept plugging through it all, not wanting to waste my food. Thankfully, the beer, water, celery, and dressing were there.

Yet, what I’ve also found is that the pain doesn’t stop after eating. Nope, nature has to take its course, and by that I mean, if it’s painful going in, it’s bound to be painful coming back out. If you know what I mean.

Why do I put myself through this? I guess it’s got something to do with pride, manliness, or something like that.

Hot Wings

Posted in dayton, deaf_hoh, food on March 23rd, 2006 by Daniel Johnson, Jr. – Be the first to comment

Mood: hot, teary
Listening to: audio from a Deaf/Hard of Hearing conference we attended last weekend
Eating: Hot wings from Buffalo Wild Wings

Jennie brought home some Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. OMG! The flavors she brought home were

  • mango habanera
  • asian zing
  • spicy garlic
  • blazin’

When Jennie called to ask how hot I wanted the wings, I told her I was willing to go as hot as we could go, even to burning another hole. What I meant by that was that, if it’s hot going in, chances are it’s going to be hot coming back out.

I’m reminded of when we lived in Dayton. We lived really close to this restaurant called B.C. Rooster’s. One of the flavors they had was called “donkey”. It was really spicy – in fact, it was about the hottest we could handle.

It wasn’t until we sat down to eat the blazin’ ones that I understood what was potentially meant by the term “donkey” (think of synonyms).

So, we opted for a bit of – dare I say – “fun” self-punishment.

Update: It’s been several hours, and I’ve been “punished” again, if you know what I mean.

Better Than Chocolate!

Also yesterday afternoon, we went to Golden Corral, where we got to partake of their Steak Buffet! (fanfare, jubilee, uh oh, the PETA police are coming!) “Grilled, seasoned to perfection.” Here’s more:

My mouth waters as I type those words. So tender, I must have gone to the buffet about 4 or 5 times. “This is better than dessert!” I exclaimed to the group of folks at the neighboring table, who kept glancing at me with these weird looks on their faces. “I guess I should be careful,” I muttered. “I wouldn’t want to OD (overdose) on steak now, would I?” Smiles. Snickers. Grins. “Although there are worse fates than ‘Death by Sirloin’!” Actual chuckles.

So steak has now risen to the top spot in my list of favorite foods. Pizza had previously been the leader, but now, alas, it resides at number two. Now I know what to ask Santa for when Christmas rolls around this year!
